เจ้าหน้าที่ภาคสนามได้พบพังสมศรี ได้ล้มบริเวณลำห้วยแม่ยาวหลังจากที่ทางมูลนิธิฯ ได้ปล่อยให้พังสมศรีใช้ชีวิตอย่างอิสระในป่าดอยผาเมือง โดยในวันเดียวกัน สพ.ญ.ณัฎฐา มณีวรรณ ได้เข้าไปผ่าซากชันสูตรพังสมศรีเพื่อหาสาเหตุต่อไป
